General Dynamics - Sr. Financial Accountant

Primary Function

General Dynamics(GD) Shared Resources (SRI) provides the company’s business units and Corporate Headquarters with innovative and high-quality Human Resources and Payroll services.

 

This position has responsibility for accounts payable activities and business processes related to payroll, payroll tax, and certain benefits. The Sr. Financial Accountant helps to ensure the accuracy of transactions recorded into the general ledger, and the accuracy of cost allocations to business segments. This position also supports account reconciliation and the fulfillment of routine audit requests.

 

Responsibilities

The Sr. Financial Accountant has the overall responsibility for the following:

 

General Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates knowledge and support for the GD ethos, SRI’s standards, policies and procedures, confidentiality standards, and code of ethical behavior.
  • Able to support non-routine work and project-based assignments with only general guidance. Able to deliver thoughtful workproduct and meaningful results within an unstructured setting.
  • Maintains a positive and professional work environment. Fosters an environment of continuous improvement, creative thinking and best practices. Performs self-examination of existing processes and considers methods for improvement.
  • Oversee routine accounts payable functions including reporting. Develop an understanding of complex data flows related to payroll, payroll tax, and certain benefits processes.
  • Establishes work procedures and processes that support company and departmental standards, procedures, and strategic directives.
  • Responsible and accountable for meeting external and/or internal customer needs. Proactively communicates with internal/external customers to identify expectations and satisfaction levels. Issues of concern are recognized and addressed quickly and effectively.

 

Technical Responsibilities

  • Support large and complex business processes with limited supervision
  • Execute transactional activity on-time and with a high degree of accuracy. Review transactional activity generated by others and identify errors and potential pitfalls.
  • Track and reconcile payroll tax activity in the general ledger
  • Support the flow of data from GD’s payroll information system into GD’s general ledger.
  • Support the flow of data from GD’s expense reimbursement platflorm into GD’s general ledger.
  • Interact professionally with business segment personnel at all levels. Deliver on 100% of customer commitments.
  • Prepares and reviews weekly submissions of Time and Attendance data.
  • Prepares and reviews inter-division transaction support and journal entries
  • Reviews electronic payment documentation and accounts payable reconciliations.
  • Researches difficult accounting problems and develops solutions.
  • Review of Forms 1099 for correctness and accuracy.
  • Leads or assists in the analysis and documentation of complex processes or software systems and helps develop process/system improvements.
  • Acts as a resource and interacts with other Finance Department employees and other SRI departments.
  • Leads or participates in Continuous Improvement projects to analyze, review and develop improvements as necessary.
  • Responsible for supporting DCAA, internal, and external audit requests.
  • Performs special projects as assigned.

 

Professional Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree with major course work in accounting or related field.

  • 3-4 years of increasingly responsible accounting.

  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and significant experience in their application.

  • Advanced Excel skills.

  • An orientation to approach analytic tasks with little precedent or instruction as welcomed challenges.

  • Exceptional critical thinking, analytical, organizational, and communication stills.

  • Ability to exist within and positively contribute to a high performance team environment.

  • Professional verbal and written communication skills.
  • The experience, knowledge, and skills necessary to handle complex accounting tasks and produce accurate and thoughtful financial analysis.

 

 

Preferred:

  • CPA or CPA eligible
