Primary Function
General Dynamics’ Shared Resources provides the company’s Business Units and Corporate Headquarters with innovative and effective common HR and Payroll services.
This position has full responsibility for the accounting and reconciliation of many benefit plan related accounts and monitoring and reporting responsibility for benefit plans administration data. This position supports the Benefits Accounting Department as a subject matter expert on benefit plan data.
Responsibilities
The Benefit Audit Compliance Analyst has the overall responsibility to deliver the following:
General responsibilities:
- Demonstrates knowledge and support for the GD ethos, SR’s standards, policies and procedures, confidentiality standards, and code of ethical behavior.
- Maintains a positive and professional work environment by fostering an environment of continuous improvement, creative thinking and best practices,
- Responsible for suggesting methods to improve area operations, efficiency and service to both internal and external customers.
- Establishes work procedures and processes that support company and departmental standards, procedures, and strategic directives by managing the department procedures process.
- Responsible and accountable for meeting customer needs. Proactively communicates with customers to identify expectations and satisfaction levels. Issues of concern are recognized and addressed quickly and effectively.
Technical responsibilities:
- Responsible for providing all information related to external audit requests related to Benefits Accounting department.
- Prepares the compilation of data requirements for the VEBA data sheet.
- Performs monthly analysis of benefits claims, premiums and ASO data for fluctuations in excess of requirements and investigates rationale for the fluctuation. Provides results of analysis to the Accounting Department to assist with audits.
- Assists with writing department procedures and owns the yearly maintenance process for the department procedure review.
- Prepares the actuarial accounting requirements for third party administrator related to the defined benefit plans.
- Reconciles the weekly contribution remittance file provided by the Payroll Services Department to the Fidelity Chargeback file and monthly bank statement after each contribution remittance
- Supports the Senior Benefit Audit Analyst on benefit plan audit requests as needed.
- Responsible for tracking audit data requests, and interacting with auditors and management to ensure timely responses to data requests.
- Assists with financial statement preparation for the benefit plans.
- Assists the Senior Benefit Audit Analyst and Benefit Accounting Manager on all benefit auditing-related issues.
- Performs special projects as assigned.
Professional Qualifications
Required:
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Strong problem solving and analytical abilities.
- Understanding of accrual based accounting.
- Positive attitude working in a group environment.
- Detail-oriented and meticulous accuracy.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- The experience, knowledge, and skills necessary to handle complex accounting tasks.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance or equivalent experience.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in accounting.
- CPA Candidate.
Two to three years of public accounting experience.
