Company Controller - Parker Bows

Position Summary and Goals

Parker Bows is looking for an energetic, multi-talented, hands-on and pro-active Company Controller that will be responsible for working with senior management in the daily execution of all company accounting and financial functions. Overall, the Controller will be fully responsible to:

  • Prepare period financial reports (Income Statement, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow Statement)
  • Prepare periodic management and operating reports
  • Develop and update an annual budget and forecast
  • Contribute to the inventory management and purchase planning
  • Maintain an adequate system of accounting records
  • Manage the company’s accounting department staff
  • Ensure that reported results comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principals
  • Also serve in a similar capacity for Parker’s sister company, Outdoor Colors

The Controller will work closely with senior management and contribute to strengthening Parker’s accounting, financial and related functions. The Controller must possess significant hands-on skills and experience in these functions.

Responsibilities and Duties

Management

  • Develop and maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
  • Develop and manage internal accounting controls to ensure accuracy, minimize errors and reduce the chance for fraud
  • Oversee the operations of the accounting department and staff
  • Oversee the accounting operations for Parker’s sister company, Outdoor Colors Transactions

Transactions

  • Work through the accounting staff to ensure that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner
  • Work through the accounting staff to ensure that accounts receivable are collected promptly
  • Ensure all cash receipts and disbursements are completed on time and accurately, and complete all periodic bank reconciliations
  • Prepare monthly Federal Excise Tax and Royalty payment calculations
  • Maintain and update the chart of accounts
  • Process bi-weekly payroll in a timely manner
  • Maintain an orderly accounting filing system
  • Prepare and enter general ledger journal entries to record adjustments and corrections, as neededReporting

Reporting

  • Prepare and issue timely, accurate and complete financial statements monthly
  • Prepare and issue financial and operating reports on key business metrics, including sales, costs, cash flow, etc.
  • Provide financial analyses as needed, such as that for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiationsBudgeting / Purchase Planning

Budgeting / Purchase Planning

  • Manage the production of the annual budgets and forecasts
  • Update the budget and forecast as needed throughout the year
  • Prepare periodic purchase planning analysis (at least quarterly) to provide guidance to the Purchasing Manager regarding upcoming inventory purchasesInventory / Standard Costing

Inventory / Standard Costing

  • Maintain the company’s inventory standard costing system and ensure everyone is compliant with data-entry into the system so as to maintain the integrity of the inventory valuation
  • Complete a reconciliation monthly of the purchase clearing account to identify potential inventory cost variances
  • Co-lead together with other management the annual physical inventory procedureCompliance

Compliance

  • Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors and accountants
  • Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filingsIT / ERP System

IT / ERP System

  • Maintain the company’s ERP system (Sage Software MAS 200)
  • Provide assistance in the maintenance and upgrading of the company’s local area network and IT infrastructure

Qualifications

  • Ten (10) years of experience in performing and managing the responsibilities and duties of a company controller, preferably in a manufacturing company environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a CPA, CMA or equivalent professional designation
  • Extensive knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Power Point and Access
  • Significant experience with IT and ERP systems, such as Sage Software MAS 200
  • Self-organized, meticulous and able to manage numerous projects simultaneously while working independently
  • Effectively manages changing priorities and has the tenacity to overcome adversity and obstacles
  • Ability to think outside the box, take direction and feedback from senior management, learn new skills and challenge oneself
  • Interest in outdoor recreational activities and products is preferred

Reports directly to President

Compensation

This position is full time. An attractive compensation package will be offered that is commensurate with background, experience, skills and education.

Location

Shenandoah Valley of Virginia in Staunton, Virginia, near Charlottesville, Waynesboro and Harrisonburg
